Frequently Asked Questions

We take most major insurance providers, offer weekday evening hours, & offer one-on-one relationship counseling.

What's the first step to get started?

Call us at 815-979-3440 for prices and to schedule. We accept cash, checks, MasterCard and Visa.

If you would like us to bill your insurance, you will need to call our billing service before your first session so they can confirm you have current coverage for our services. Call Chicagoland Medical Billing at 815-986-4444. Any unmet insurance deductibles and unconfirmed coverage are payable before the start of each session, up to the session fee.

How often will we meet?

Both couples and individual sessions are usually scheduled weekly or every other week at first, moving to longer intervals as you make progress. You will leave each session with an assignment to practice in your real life, to strengthen your new skills and enhance your relationship.

How long are the sessions?

Most sessions are 45-50 minutes long, as this is the time frame covered by most insurance plans. If both partners are insured, you may request a "double" session, or pay at the time of your appointments. Custom marriage and couples intensives are also available in 3- or 4-hour time blocks. $175 for a one-hour couple/marriage counseling session. $155 for a 50-minute individual session. Individual appointments are also available with our Northwestern University counseling intern for $39/session.

How long can my partner and I expect to stay in therapy?

Several variables affect the length of therapy. One is how much hurt (i.e., “baggage”) you each bring from childhood and other adult relationships. Another is the amount of wounding you have done to each other; healing takes time. A third factor is your commitment and willingness to do better, as well as to apply and practice what you learn at home between our sessions.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, we are providers for Aetna, Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO, Cigna, ECHO, Magellan, The Alliance, Humana, PHCS Multiplan, United Behavioral Health and Value Options. If you do not see your insurance carrier listed, we can help you find out if you have any out-of-network benefits. Also, we are affiliate providers for many EAP's; call your EAP and ask if we are on their panel. We are not providers for Medicaid or the medical card.

Do you have evening and weekend hours?

We have evening hours on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. We are closed Saturday and Sunday.
Summer appointment schedule: Mondays 12 pm to 7 pm; Tuesdays 12 pm to 8 pm; Wednesdays 3 pm 6 pm; Thursdays 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm; Fridays 8 am to 11 am.

Can I come in for relationship counseling even if my spouse/partner won't come with me?

Yes, you may come in by yourself. Although we prefer to work with the two of you together, you will still be able to make changes to improve your relationship.
